Welcome! I have always found nature to be where I could best feel apart of something larger, closer to God, and able to rest within the Divine. Within a forest or at a quiet beach, the boundaries of myself seem to fade as I become present to the rhythmic push and pull of waves or aware of the quiet presence of a tree. Within nature, the sense of wonder is all around along with the quietness that allows us to experience it. Wonderment is not an end to itself but helps us expand and taps into an inner openness. In wonderment, fear is driven out and the present moment becomes the only moment. It helps free us from our little world be open to the spiritual life that many of us crave.
Nature not only allows us to have such experiences, but it also has much to teach if we notice. While science and religion/spirituality are not often viewed going hand-in-hand, it makes sense that creation would provide some insights into the Creator. These two areas can support each other without the call to force religion into the boundaries of scientific understanding or to dismiss science because it is not spiritual, nor do we need a thorough understanding of one to appreciate the other.
I find that nature provides many concrete examples of spiritual teachings or general life lessons. These insights can help us better understand often abstract concepts and/or provide reminders to us about ways to tap into our true self. With this blog, I plan on sharing some of my observations on such matters. My goal is to use a blend of science, observation, spiritual and religious teachings, and my own experiences to explore these concepts and ideas.
